The beginning of a creative path
Konstantin and Boris Burdaev were born on June 6, 1981 in Samara in a family of pharmacists. But the guys decided not to associate their future with medicine, choosing a completely different direction. From an early age, they gravitated towards music, and this love was carried through the years. In 1997, they jointly formed their first band, Magellan, which was renamed the Brothers Grim a year later. For a while they played in the Bossanova Band.
They organized their debut concert in their hometown at the medical and Technical Lyceum. Then, in the first line-up, guitarist Maxim Malitsky and drummer Anton Sharonin took the stage with them. Kostya acted as a backing vocalist and guitarist, Borya also played guitar and was a soloist. In 1999, Katya Pletneva joined them. She also became a guitarist and backing vocalist. A little later, she will marry Boris, and after another couple of years, she will become a member of the third line–up.
For several years, the Brothers Grim band sang in city clubs and modest concert halls. The audience loved them, and the circle of fans gradually increased. The guys developed, developed an individual style, and prepared to conquer new heights. It was only in 2004 that they had a chance to take the next step up the career ladder.
Going out to the masses
Leonid Burlakov, a well–known Russian producer who "created" such "stars" as "Zemfira" and "Mumiy Troll", took up young musicians. After meeting him, the Burdaev brothers reached a new level. By the way, the music producer absolutely accidentally got his hands on a CD with demo recordings of the "Brothers Grim". But the professional immediately saw the potential in the guys and invited them to Moscow to meet. After 6 days, they have already signed a cooperation contract.
The band immediately got to work: they recorded several new songs during one night. At the same time, they get acquainted with their sound producer Oleg Chubykin and change the composition of the musicians: Andrey Timonin becomes the keyboardist, Denis Popov sits down at the drum kit.
The following year 2005 was the most successful in the band's career. They made their debut at the Maksidrom Music Festival. Their performance caused a real sensation. During the same period, they released the debut album "Brothers Grim" with such hits as "Eyelashes", "The Second Half", "Kusturica". After them, the shooting of video clips for some compositions begins.
The peak of popularity
The fame of the red-haired twin brothers with extraordinary looks, brilliant vocals, and driving songs flies at the speed of light. They immediately occupy the top positions of the charts, go into radio rotation. At the Megahouse party. Fresh Blood" they get to know the Moscow public firsthand and just fall in love with themselves at first sight. In February, the band is invited to perform as guests at the Umaturman concert in Luzhniki.
The bright and colorful Burdaev brothers take part in the filming of the Chupa Chups commercial. They perform the soundtrack to the acclaimed film "From 180 and above". They begin to hold solo performances and get the first ardent fans. In the middle of summer, the debut outdoor concert was a full house. The tickets were sold out instantly, and only the most devoted fans had enough. At the peak of such fame, the band goes on tour in Russia.
In 2006, they released their second album, Illusion, which was recorded in New Zealand. It was a very high-quality work, which was highly appreciated by critics. The musicians continue to delight fans by performing at festivals, in concert halls, and shooting new music videos. The fame of the "Brothers Grim" has spread far beyond the borders of their native country. Their songs were played in major cities of America, England, Germany, and Israel.
Creative crisis and disintegration
Since 2007, the Burdaevs have been taking control and parting ways with the producer. Since 2008, the band has been playing fewer and fewer concerts. Their third album "Martians" does not bring the band much success. In the summer, the composition changes: Dmitry Kryuchkov takes the place of Maxim Malitsky. Andrei Timonin leaves after him. The group has been working with such a team for about six months.
By that time, the Grim Brothers had a lot of conflicts and disagreements. On March 6, 2009, a message about the breakup appeared on the website of the musical group. It was written that Boris was taking a sabbatical, although he himself did not know anything about it. Konstantin decided to continue his activities on his own and two days later gave his first solo acoustic concert. Such an act by his brother was the final rupture of their relationship. From that time on, they never sang together again.
The next few years were accompanied by loud scandals, mutual accusations, and copyright investigations.
Konstantin continues to perform with the band. Now he is actively writing songs with an updated line-up, giving concerts and touring under the old name "Brothers Grim", but without his brother.
Nothing was heard of Boris for a while. But in 2011, he appeared on stage as a member of the Lirrika collective. In 2014, the musician announced his intention to add a new item to his creative biography and created the project "Boris Grim and the Brothers Grim". The repertoire included both old and new compositions.
Today, every artist has his own life and creative activity. Unfortunately, they were never able to establish relations and reunite into a single team. But maybe they still have things ahead of them.
