"Brothers Grim" (Bratya Grim) is a popular Russian pop group that gained recognition after the release of their main hit "Lashes". The duo of red-haired twin brothers won the hearts of the public from their first appearances on the screen. Their appearance attracts a lot of attention, and professional vocals make you admire. Despite the fact that today they no longer perform together, their musical collective occupies a special niche in the Russian pop scene.
Their style
"Brothers Grim" became famous in the genre of pop music. They call their style "grim rock". It is based on positivity and joy, the complete absence of sadness and depression. Their main goal is to bring positive emotions to the masses.
The guys' voices are clear and ringing, the performance is technically flawless and dynamic. They feel themselves perfectly on stage, giving themselves completely to the audience. Their performances, as well as the songs themselves, are filled with drive and energy. And the images of romantic hooligans are deeply embedded in girls' hearts.
The beginning of the creative way
Konstantin and Boris Burdaev were born on June 6, 1981 in Samara in a family of pharmacists. But the guys decided not to connect their future with medicine, choosing a completely different direction. From an early age they were drawn to music, and this love carried through the years. In 1997 they jointly created their first band "Magellan", which a year later was renamed "Brothers Grim". For some time they played in the musical collective Bossanova Band.
They organized their debut concert in their hometown in the medical-technical lyceum. Then guitarist Maxim Malitsky and drummer Anton Sharonin went on stage with them in the first line-up. Kostya performed as a backing vocalist and guitarist, Borya also played guitar and was a soloist. In 1999 Katya Pletneva joined them. She also became a guitarist and backing vocalist. A little later, she will marry Boris, and a couple more years later she will become a member of the third lineup.
For several years, the Brothers Grim sang in city clubs and modest concert halls. The audience loved them, and the circle of fans gradually increased. The guys developed, developed an individual style, and were preparing to conquer new heights. And only in 2004 they had a chance for the next step in the career ladder.
Going out to the masses
The young musicians were taken care of by Leonid Burlakov, a famous Russian producer who "created" such "stars" as "Zemfira" and "Mumiy Troll". After meeting him, the Burdaev brothers reached a new level. By the way, the music producer absolutely accidentally got into the hands of a disk with demos of "Brothers Grim". But the professional immediately saw the potential in the guys and invited them to Moscow for acquaintance. After 6 days, they have already signed a contract on cooperation.
The team immediately began to work: during one night they recorded several new compositions. At the same time they got acquainted with their sound producer Oleg Chubykin and changed the line-up of musicians: Andrey Timonin became the keyboardist and Denis Popov became the drummer.
The following year 2005 became the most successful in the band's career. They made their debut at the music festival "Maxidrom". Their performance caused a real furor. In the same period they release the debut album "Brothers Grim" with such hits as "Lashes", "The Second Half", "Kusturica". Following them, the shooting of video clips for some compositions also begins.
The peak of popularity
The fame of the red-haired twin brothers with an extraordinary appearance, brilliant vocals, and driving songs spread at the speed of light. They immediately occupy the top positions of hit-parades, go into radio rotation. At the party "MegaHouse. Fresh Blood" party they get acquainted with the Moscow public and simply fall in love with themselves at first sight. In February the band was invited to perform as guests at the concert "Umaturman" in Luzhniki.
Bright and colorful Burdaev brothers take part in the shooting of Chupa Chups commercials. In their performance sounds the soundtrack to the sensational movie "From 180 and above". They begin to hold solo performances and get the first ardent fans. In the middle of the summer, the debut open concert was a full house. Tickets were sold out instantly, and they were enough only for the most devoted fans. At the peak of such fame the band went on tour in Russia.
In 2006 they released the second album "Illusion", which was recorded in New Zealand. It was a very high-quality work, which was highly appreciated by critics. Musicians continue to please fans, performing at festivals, in concert halls, shooting new clips. The fame of the "Brothers Grim" spread far beyond the borders of their native country. Their songs were heard in major cities in America, England, Germany, Israel.
Creative crisis and disintegration
Since 2007, the Burdaevs take control in their own hands and part with the producer. Since 2008, the band gives fewer and fewer concerts. Their third album "Martians" does not bring the band much success. In summer the line-up changes: Dmitry Kryuchkov takes Maxim Malitsky's place. Andrei Timonin leaves after him. The band worked as a team for about half a year.
By that time the Brothers Grim had a lot of conflicts and disagreements. On March 6, 2009 on the site of the musical group there was a message about the breakup. It was written that Boris was taking a sabbatical, although he himself knew nothing about it. Konstantin decided to continue the activity on his own and two days later gave the first solo acoustic concert. Such a deed of his brother became the final breakup of their relationship. Since that time they never sang together again.
The next few years were accompanied by loud scandals, mutual accusations, clarification of copyrights.
Konstantin continues to perform with the group. Now he with the renewed composition actively writes songs, gives concerts and tours under the old name "Brothers Grim", but without his brother.
Nothing was heard about Boris for some time. But in 2011 he went on stage as a member of the collective Lirrika. In 2014, the musician declared his intention to write a new point in his creative biography and created the project "Boris Grim and Brothers Grim". In the repertoire sounded both old compositions and new ones.
Today, each artist has his own life and creative activity. Unfortunately, they never managed to establish relations and reunite in a single collective.
