The group "Boombox" (Bumboks) is a Ukrainian band created in mid-2004, working in the genre of funk, hip-hop, rock. Already the first songs brought the collective Olympus of fame and popularity. The discography is dominated by compositions in Ukrainian, but there are also Russian- and English-language hits. The music of the group is lyrical and deep. And the activity reflects the love of all members of the collective for their work.
History of the emergence and composition
One of the creators and leader of the group is Andrey Khlyvnyuk. Earlier he was a member of the collective "Graphite". Andriy was born in Cherkassy in 1979. The boy was interested in music since childhood and practiced vocal, played the accordion. As a student he played in the band "Tangerine Paradise". The musician was fond of jazz and swing. He was also a member of the Acoustic Swing Band. Then the collective "Graphite" was born, where Khlyvnyuk became a soloist.
The second creator is Andrei Samoilo, ex-guitarist of the band "Tartak". The history of the "Boombox" band began when the lead singer and guitarist started to compose songs together. They did it more for themselves, not counting on the result they achieved.
Soon after the beginning of joint work, the question of attracting new instruments arose. The musicians did not start to gather a big band. They offered to become part of the new group to DJ Valik Matiyuk, who was also familiar with the performer and guitarist from "Tartak". He worked with Andrei Samoilo for about 7 years.
The musicians, working together, tried to record their first album. But the leader of "Tartak" considered this action a betrayal on the part of the band members. At this time, Hlyvnyuk's project was also suspended, which pushed the talented artists to develop their own group, which would rise to the top of popularity.
Later, bass guitarist Denis Levchenko, drummer Alexander Lyulyakin and keyboardist Pavel Litvinenko joined the band. In 2004 a new musical project "Boombox" was presented at the festival "Chaika".
Rapid rise
In 2005 the first album of the band "Melomania" was released, which contained 11 tracks. It was recorded in a short time (three studio shifts) and made a sensation on the radio stations of the country. Video clips were shot for the songs "Super-duper" and "E-mail".
The band immediately gained popularity, its songs were heard from everywhere. Such a rise was due to a unique combination of genres. The musicians combined funk, pop, rock, hip-hop and jazz in their compositions.
The album was recorded quickly, but managers delayed its official release. To speed up this process, the guys themselves distributed records to friends and acquaintances. Their songs were released. With the creation of the first album, touring began. Having got on the stages of Moscow, the guys were pleasantly surprised - the fans were already waiting for them in Russia. They knew the lyrics by heart and sang along during the performances.
A year later the second album of the group - "Family Business" - was released. It consolidated the success of Boombox. It included hits that even today do not leave the playlists of fans:
In Ukraine, "Family Business" received gold status, and in the Russian Federation became platinum. In their first work the guys experimented and improvised more. But during the creation of the second album special attention was paid to sound quality, elaboration of beats and lyrics. The musicians pleased the audience not only with lyrical compositions. They shot music videos for the songs "Kim mi bouli" and "Kviti v volossi".
At the end of 2007 the mini-album "Trimai" was released. The composition "Ta 4to" immediately hit Russian radio stations. A music video was shot for it, and by the number of cover versions it surpasses other hits of the band. It was inserted into the program of their concerts by Vera Polozkova.
A year later the band released the third full-length album "III". It included 11 songs. The compositions were played on Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian radio stations. In the same year the guys signed a contract for re-release of the first two albums. In December 2009 "Boombox" released a record recorded in tandem with DJ Tonique Le DeeJay. The collection included 11 remixes of the band's past hits. A year later the band presented the record "All Inclusive". It was recorded in Kiev in Crystal Hall.
In 2011, the group "Boombox" released the album "Middle Age". And two years later the fans were presented with the record "Terminal B", which was inspired by frequent flights. Some of the compositions were written in airport terminals. The album included tracks from the band's early work and hits of the "electronic era".
For three years, the band rested and prepared for the release of a new album. It came out in 2016. It was "Naked King" with 6 songs and the maxi-single "People". In honor of the release of the album, the guys organized a big tour in Ukraine. It covered 21 cities. Two video clips were made for the key song of the album. One of them starred members of the Belarus Free Theatre troupe, with whom the musicians have been collaborating since 2016. They toured the world together with the performance Burning Doors, which was recognized with a British award.
The Ukrainian group has collaborated with various musicians and performers. In the discography of the collective there is a joint work with Dmitry Shurov, Tina Karol. They recorded a cover of the composition "Stars do not ride the subway" ("Time Machine"). Songs of the group sounded in the feature films "Red Pearl of Love" and "Ashes".
