"Gosti iz budushego (Guests from the Future) is a famous Russian pop group, which is considered to be the creator of a new trend in dance music. Their compositions have no semantic load, are perceived easily and are characterized by heartfelt sensuality and peculiar lyrics. Yuri Usachev and Eva Polna, the constant members of the group, gave us dozens of beautiful works that have entered the golden fund of Russian pop music.
Life before "Guests from the Future"
Eva Polna was born in Leningrad and from childhood was drawn to music. At school she practiced dancing, vocal and drawing. Then she graduated from the College of Arts and the Institute of Culture in her native city. For some time she lived in Poland. Returning to her homeland, she was accepted in the collective "A-2" as a dancer and backing vocalist, but she did not stay there for long. All this time the girl wrote lyrics, which she drew from her personal life. A little later they were reflected in the work of "Guests from the Future".
Yuri Usachev was also engaged in creativity from a young age. He learned to play the cello, clarinet, drums, sang in the choir, but he failed to graduate from music school - he was kicked out for skipping lessons of solfeggio and music history. Then he went to study at a vocational school, where he got a profession of a weaver. But his whole biography was closely intertwined with creativity. For a while he was part of the groups "Chugunny Skorokhod" and "Active-Positive", then cooperated with "Otpetyami Rascals". He was mainly engaged in sound accompaniment and arrangements, improving and mastering new technologies of music-making. Feeling the strength and potential, he decided to create his own project.
His first duet was with Evgeny Arsentiev. For two years they tried to break through to the big stage and get an audience, but the labor was not successful.
In 1998, Yuri accidentally heard Eva's voice in one of the clubs. He immediately realized that this vocal would conquer the country. He offered the girl to become the soloist of his group, she agreed. A few days later, the artists met in the studio, and it is from there that the history of the group "Guests from the Future" begins.
Creative path
From the first hours of work, they realized that their vision of modern music completely coincides. They formed a harmonious tandem, where Eva wrote the lyrics and Yuri was responsible for the sound. They worked around the clock to create their first record. They plunged into the process, spending all the time in the studio. The name of the collective appeared quite by accident: their friends began to tease about how much time the duo devotes to creativity, saying that the artists behave strangely, as not from this world, as "guests from the future". With the light hand of comrades and the name arose.
The first joint composition was "Time is sand". After a few more songs appeared, from which the debut album was formed.
A big role in the popularization of "Guests from the Future" played DJ Groove, who at that time worked on the radio and spun music in clubs. Yuri gave him a few tracks to listen to. Grove appreciated the tracks and soon they were included in the air of the radio station. He also helped to organize the first concert for Yuri and Eva. It took place in one of St. Petersburg clubs. The hall was filled with audience, and as soon as Eva started singing, everyone began to sing along with her. The performance was a success. "Guests from the future" call this date - March 8, 1998 - the birthday of the group. And everyone was sure that the popularity will cover them with a head. But the fame to them did not rush.
The music of the debut album was incomprehensible for the listeners. Then the duo made adjustments to the repertoire, slightly changed the genre and began writing new tracks. The second record "Run from me", released in 1999, resonated in the hearts of the public. Songs began to be played on the radio and in clubs, invitations to concerts and participation in festivals came, a real star life began. The appearance of producer Evgeny Orlov in the group contributed to it.
"Guests from the future" created fashionable music, pop of the new millennium. At the same time managed to do it in such a way that among the fans of creativity were both young people and their parents. In 2000 they presented the album "Winter in the Heart" and went on tour in Russia and European countries.
Having become self-sufficient musicians, they broke the contract with the producer and set off on a free voyage. The third album "It's Stronger Than Me" turned out to be particularly successful - the use of live instruments gave some zest to the sound.
For the next few years they added to their discography every two years. Concert and festival activities were very intense. Nevertheless, they had enough time for musical experiments, careful elaboration, creation of quality arrangements.
Till 2009 they recorded 9 albums, shot as many videos. In the mid-2000s, the simple motifs of the songs "Love Me in French", "You're Somewhere", "Dislike", "It's Stronger Than Me" and others sounded everywhere. Almost every new track released became a hit. Many of them stayed at the top of hit parades and charts for several weeks.
Completion of the star duo
Despite the great success of the collective in the musical field, since 2006 the activity went down. And in 2009 Eva announced the closure of the project and the start of a solo career. With Yuri Usachev they continued their cooperation: he wrote arrangements for her and remained a sound producer. In addition, he created several of his own projects and helped to develop aspiring artists.
Today Eva continues to perform with a new repertoire. Although sometimes performs and hits of "Guests from the Future". She has released several solo albums and is actively touring Russia with a new program. Yuri has been the general producer of a large recording studio "Grammophone Records" since 2002.
