"Nogu Svelo!" (Nogu Svelo) is one of the most epathetic bands in Russian show business. In Soviet times, they caused astonishment and delight, which soon grew into great national love. But they have not stopped surprising the public to this day. The genre of their songs can not be attributed to any already existing. In the compositions there is pop-punk, alternative rock, ska-punk, there is a place for avant-garde, art and indie rock. In the last decade more electronica can be traced in their work. Numerous phonetic experiments, irony, cynicism, with which their lyrics are filled, have brought great popularity to the band not only in Russia, but also abroad.
History of creation
Maxim Pokrovsky, Vitaly Akshevsky and Anton Yakomulsky were the founders of the legendary band. Young guys, full of strength, energy and ideas, initially dreamed of creating something non-standard. They wanted to stand out against the background of other musicians, that's why they defined their creativity as an antipode to the mainstream. Having only a few compositions in their arsenal, they were accepted into the ranks of the Moscow Rock Laboratory. Already there they came up with the name "Nogu svelo!".
The first performances at festivals immediately attracted the attention of the public to the newfound trio. "Polyclinic", "Durdom", "Tazepam" conquered the capital audience instantly. But Pokrovsky's image of "merrymakers" quickly got bored. Then Valery Skoroded, a guitarist from the anarcho-punk band "Mongol Shuudan", joined the band. With him "Nogu svelo!" sound became much more interesting. A little later, keyboardist Viktor Medvedev would join them. In this line-up they will fly to the peak of fame.
First steps to popularity
The debut album "1:0 in favor of girls" the group recorded in 1990, but presented it three years later. At that time they were quite famous in their circles. The second record saw the light in 1992, it was called "Caprices of Mannequin Girls". The first works of the collective were highly appreciated by critics: witty lyrics, original timbre of the soloist, interesting vocal presentation and very high-quality at that time arrangement. "Noga svelo!" began to be invited to various large-scale festivals, where they expanded the circle of their fans.
A turning point in the work of the band was the performance in one of the issues of "Program A", where live rock music was played. Just by that time they recorded the song "Haru Mamburu", which they planned to present. But they decided to perform it in a new format. Pokrovsky had long wanted to add brass to his trio. They invited trombonist Maxim Likhachev and trumpeter Igor Markov (these musicians later joined the main lineup). They performed the iconic song with unique color and expression. This extravaganza can be called fateful, as it not only brought them tremendous success, but influenced the further development of pop-rock culture in Russia.
Creative path
After the release of "phonetic delirium" "Haru Mamburu", and soon the third album with the same name "Nogu svelo!" was covered with a wave of fame. They were invited to the biggest festivals, concert venues, TV and radio airs. They appeared on the covers of glossy magazines, became the guests of programs, filmed music videos.
Having conquered Russia, the band members went on tour in Europe. In France they were named the best alternative band from Russia, in Romania they were awarded the Grand Prix of the festival "Golden Deer". In 1994 they became the "Discovery of the Year", and since that time the collection of awards was replenished with several statuettes every year. "Most Scandalous Clip", "Computer Graphics", "Best Soundtrack" and multiple recognitions as the best alternative band were well deserved.
At the height of their fame "Nogu svelo!" took part in the national selection for Eurovision. But they took only the second place.
In 1995 they released no less successful in their discography album "Siberian Love". While working on it, a whole symphony orchestra was involved, which made the sound simply fantastic.
The end of the 90's and the beginning of the 2000's were very successful in the history of the band. They celebrated their 10th anniversary by presenting the album "Kallas", which included the most "inadequate", according to the musicians themselves, compositions. They often took part in grandiose shows, performed abroad, took top positions in foreign hit parades. And they also learned German and English to reach a large audience.
Every year they became bolder and more epathetic: they did not hesitate to bring on stage an inflatable woman or a 4-meter male reproductive organ. There were no boundaries for them. Everything that was unacceptable for most artists appealed to Pokrovsky. And that's what attracted the audience. They had a whole army of fans who were just crazy about all the antics of the collective.
A new round of creativity
In addition to music, Maxim Pokrovsky became famous in the film industry. First he played small roles in theater productions, then performed the main parts. Soon he was invited to shoot in the movies. So he got to Hollywood itself (starred in the parody action movie "Da Vinci's Fast and Furious").
Hear "Noga Svelo!" can be heard in many domestic films and programs. They created dozens of soundtracks. Having established cooperation with Mikhail Gutseriev, Maxim began to write lyrics for other Russian performers.
Since 2012, the lead singer of the band began to work in America and the UK. There he created a solo project and for some time stormed foreign venues, improving his musical skills, making useful acquaintances, collaborating with world-famous DJs. At the same time he didn't forget about the army of fans at home. Having given a number of large-scale concerts in the U.S., he returned to Russia and started recording albums with renewed vigor.
"Eat My Heart" (2014) and "Mothers of My Planet" (2017) - these albums once again confirmed that "Nogu Svelo!" - is a unique phenomenon on the music platform. Freshness and novelty can be seen in every work.
Today the band continues to spout new ideas and experiments. The members do not advertise their personal lives, they only talk about their creative work. Pokrovsky opened a management company Max Incubator in New York, which promotes his own group and young performers.
