From the late 1970s, the poet lived in Pärnu, where he wrote the best of his late work, from the poem "Julius Klompus" to "Pärnus Elegies", kept the magazine "In the Circle of Myself" (semi-decent), wrote uncensored "Military Notes" and still unpublished notes on Levitansky, Slutsky, Kim, Okudzhava.

Dmitry Gubin, a journalist and now a foreign agent, lived with the Samoilovs in Pärnu in the 1980s and listened to his stories about Svetlana Alliluyeva.

Only he knows something about David Samoilov. The time has come to tell it.
