Event description

A diverse evening with Grigory Kofman as part of the 2024 cultural program

Literary-musical composition "Settle Slawuta", based on stories by Wladimir Reznik (USA). In German, Russian, Ukrainian and Yiddish. With Grigory Kofman, actor, singer and musician (Berlin). The artist will accompany his performance with songs in Yiddish on the guitar.

The program is based on three stories by a renowned American New Wave author Vladimir Reznik. The writer, who has lived in America for more than 30 years, spent much of his childhood in his parents' hometown of Slavuta in western Ukraine. His vivid memories of that time (the 1960s), when three languages were still spoken in the small town, prompted him to write a series of stories.

It is a series of short stories about the phenomenal mix of small-town life in western Ukraine at that time, full of humor and drama, Jewish philosophy and poignant domestic observations. This program will be performed in Russian, German and Ukrainian to the extent that the performer agrees with the leadership of each community.

These stories from the Jewish cycle as well as the "American" and "Petersburg series" and the children's stories are represented by more than 60 publications in all major Russian-language online publishing houses. The short story series "Slavuta" was translated into Ukrainian and published as a book in 2022 in this western Ukrainian city.
