Theater am Potsdamer Platz Berlin

The Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin was built in 1998 and opened in 1999. The famous Italian architect Renzo Piano designed the building, which impresses with its modern, 35-metre-high glass façade and six-storey internal staircase. With a capacity of 1,754 seats, it is one of the largest theaters in Germany.

Since its opening, the theater has been an important stage for musicals, concerts and other cultural events. The best-known productions include musicals such as "Cats" and the "Blue Man Group".

In addition, since 2000, the theater has been transformed into the "Berlinale Palast" every February during the Berlinale, which serves as the main venue for the Berlin International Film Festival. Films are shown here and the stars walk the red carpet.

Although the theater was originally planned as a permanent venue for musicals, its use has changed in recent years. One of the most successful productions, "Hinterm Horizont", ended in 2016 and the building has since been rented out for various temporary events.

Today, the Theater am Potsdamer Platz is regularly used for touring productions, concerts and festivals and remains an important part of Berlin's cultural life.
